    West Virginia

I'm trying to put together a trip to WV for the spring. Was thinking about heading to the Elk river. Anybody been down there? Any advice?

Hey man, I have been over to the Elk a couple times, i know i'm late getting back to ya, but i would bring dark nymphs and big nymphs, everyone there says you need to be fishing size 32 drys and that is not my style, but threw dark john upto size 10 and i cleaned up, in the catch and release section and there are some big ones, i stayed in those cabins right on it and i caught 2 or 3 fish right around 20inches and i think i got like 25 fish each day. also bring beatles and plop them hard in the big pools where you can see fish, it was weird, but they cleaned up even in the fall, but i caught my big ones in fast runs that people fished through before with drys, but i used large johns and huge streamers, i'd like t oknow how ya do, let me know if you need somemore info on it, also if your over there try the smokeholes and by seenca rocks area they stock some monsters over in WV

I'd actually be quite curious to fish the Elk, you confirmed other stuff I've read & heard about big fish there. Love fishing rivers where people tell me I have to fish 8x-9x tippet and #28-32 flies to catch fish- then I go there with nymphs & 5x and tear 'em up. Or #2-4 streamers on 0x and stick some pigs. What's in that river for bug life, other than the really super small stuff? Do they have crayfish & minnows?
