My kids give me gift certificates for all the holidays. I guess this makes up for the dough I laid out for their education. Just joking !! They are great kids. So I save up the certificates for something really cool . This year I bought the Vanquish. I love this reel. I am lucky enough to fish a lot in water that holds big trout. This reel is the ticket for fighting the big boys. Superior drag system, extra large handle , and wide arbor retrieve ratio add up to a superior big fish fighting machine . I have this reel paired up with my marksman ten foot four weight for euro - nymphing . The reel is made in Idaho and is backed by Lamson's superior service department. .Inside the box there is a letter signed by the workers who made the reel (very cool) . I got my reel finger rapped a few times by the handle when a big Rainbow goes on run but that's just a matter of getting used to placing my hands in the right position during the fight. I know six hundred is a lot for a fly reel but this one really performs.

Love Lamson gear. I've got the Litespeed and Guru. Litespeed is phenomenal - super light, large arbor for quick reeling, and internal drag system to keep it clean and smooth. Great customer service too. I've converted to them from Ross since they got bought out by 3M.

I too love Lamson, own a couple old LP's and I have a Konic, its cheap, but functionally equivalent to most anything else out there. Its not machined but I have yet to see any problems with it...the drag is the same found on many of their more expensive reels, its not all that heavy comparatively and I have a few old cast Hardy reels with 20+ years of abuse and a couple Battenkill monsters I bought in the 90's that are still workhorses for stripers(although I havent cast to a striper in 2 years) all of these are cast and doing great. That being said...I have an old Ross R-1...when they were made in Cali...super stealthy reel, no noise matte finish...who can complain..
I love the look of the Vanquish...when things get less oppressive financially I will treat myself to either that, a Nautilus or a Hatch...choices choices...hmmm.
