Post 8 Days on the EASTSIDE (Sierras) PT & SON...and patterns that worked...

I recently returned from an eight day outing in the Eastern Sierras, fly fishing the east Walker River and Hot Creek with my son Michael. Almost all of the other waters in the area were blown out by snow melt (this has been a marker year in CA)...here are a few pics. of the scenery...Link at the bottom takes one to more and the patterns and recipes that worked for us...

The view, coming off the East Walker River in the evening...

An ALPER'S Rainbow my son Michael picked up on a #20 Silver Streak Variant...

Michael, working some heavy water near the dam, in the snow...

A Brown that hopped on a Buffalo Jump #14 Attractor, used as a lead fly...

A Hot Creek Rinbow that took a #18 Olive Baetis Nymph...

Hot Creek, before it flows into the Upper Owens River, near Mammoth Lakes, CA...

I love your photos. My dad just started fly fishing last year, so I look forward to being able to do things like this with him in the future. Great patterns too.

Streamborn1, my mother's approval aside, one of the things that I love most about this hobby are the relationships that are made. One of my best fishing buddies is a man that I've knows since I was 2. He read at the same mass I served at as an altar boy for years. We always kept in touch, but it wasn't until a couple years ago that he found me on another fly fishing forum. Ever since then we make it a point to try and get out at least once a month. Despite the 50 year age gap, it goes beyond fishing, and normally extends into lessons on life. He had mentioned to my mom the other day how much he values the friendship and she assured him that the feeling is mutual.

I think that was the first time that my mom ever really understood why I get up at the crack of dawn on a Saturday. Sometimes its about the fish, but most of the time its about enjoying the time that you have with the people you really care about.

    PT,

Love the blog, I check it from time to time to see what crazy concoctions you're conjuring up to catch fish. I saw the East Walker featured in the latest Southwest FF magazine, saw some pics that definitely looked like the areas you often frequent. Photos of that river and Upper Owens look pretty fishy, and beautiful scenery to boot. May be time to visit lower Lake Tahoe in the near future...

Haha, no worries. That did cross my mind when I was reading your first response. Always good to mean someone that shares the same namesake. All these Tim's and I couldn't find another one growing up.
