Here is another killer subsurface pattern for mid april all the way through may
I never use a bead on this pattern, as I tend to sight fish this fly in the frog water where only few brave soles dare to nymph.
The body is constructed of a 2 toned dubbing applied by dubbing, one of my coffee grinder concoctions. To be honest I couldn't tell you how many different dubs went into this before it was perfect. But the general color of the body is a dark chocolate brown. The key to getting it 2 toned is to dub your thread very lightly with the darker dubbing, then apply very tiny pinches of tan dubing in very small spots along the previously dubbed thread. Wrap it up tight and you have somethin special. The legs and tail are natural wood duck, which seems impossible to find anywhere, everyone dyes it every color of the rainbow but I can never find it natural, so I get these from a few hunting buddies. The wing case is just pheasant tail fibers, ultra gold wire for the ribbing and thats it.
