Klinkhamer Extreme Theory ?

I have been playing around with the Klinkhamer hooks . My goal is to build a selection of Parachute attractor drys to use for dry dropper fishing. I know little about these hooks except that they are designed to present the body of the fly beneath the surface film suspended by the parachute hackle. My assumption is the fly tyer is attempting a general impression of many different insects ,terrestrials ,nymphs ,emergerers, etc . The fly is a general searching pattern. So I combined the TPO parachute with the hares ear and came up with this .



I am not sure of the proper position of the parachute post. Do I have it to close to the hook eye ? Should I add a tail or a shuck? Am I on the right track ?

I use the klinkhammer alot in my dry dropper presentations with very good success. It along with the Adams parachute are my 2 favorites. Fish hit them often even when there is nothing hatching. I find the tan and olive colors work best for me. That is a good looking fly you tied. I just checked mine and the post is just slightly more towards the rear of the fly, maybe about 1/8 of an inch.

What was the manufacturer of the hook you used here.

The original hook we produced at Partridge for Hans Van klinken, all be it l have seen others so called as this hook by definition of the profile.
It was originally a nymph emerger style hook and was changed by the angle of the eye.

the position you tie the post and hackle will differ the relative angle of hang, which is also related to the material used for the fly body and if or not a tail was added.

Best way to check your fly is to tie tippet to it and set it in a fish tank or at least a large open container, a glass doe's not work so well, and leave it there for a while. If you do not add the tippet the fly will not sit at the right angle as the tippet will add forward support.
Make sure you also add your floatant if you intend to use one.
