Difference between old streamflex and the new xf2

Is the difference between the two noticeable given the same size/weight? Does the xf2 just have new, updated components or is it a whole different rod?

Re: Difference between old streamflex and the new xf2

Hey another night owl! Its hard to compare them thowell , especially when the xf2 that I just bought is an 11 ft 4 wt. Its a totally different animal. I will say that the reel seat on the xf2 s an upgrade over the old style and it has a small butt extension below the reel seat which serves very well as a resting point on your forarm. This is a good feature over the old as it lessens fatigue and helps with strike reaction time.

I guess I could be considered a night owl I was just wondering because I was looking to purchase a 10ft 4 weight and I am just debating between getting the older model for 200ish or paying the 315 or so for the xf2 version.

I used the old Streamflex a few times last year and decided to buy the old one last weekend to save some money. The few times I used it I did notice that a little more extension on the butt would of helped in support. Sounds like a perfect addition for the new one. Good luck in your decision.

The difference is about $100. Keep the extra money and go fishing.
As far as fishermen go, Captain Ahab was pretty tame.

Re: Difference between old streamflex and the new xf2

I picked up a new xf2 at UpCountry last weekend, 10' #3, for mostly nymphing, however still wanted to be able to throw a dry. I held both the old model and the xf2 side by side. I honestly didn't feel a difference in the two, however there are some minor differences.

Reel seat as has been mentioned in this post.

XF2 has one more guide than the old model.

XF2 has full circle guides as opposed to snake guides on the old model. (not sure if that's the right term, but the same kind of guides as one typical spinning rigs)

Could be wrong on this, but I don't think the old model has line up dots?

The XF2 has a triangular case with individual compartments for the blanks as opposed to the sock.

FWIW, I also own last year's streamflex in a 9' #5. Both rods balance great with a lamson litespeed 2.0.

As has been said, the other difference is about $100 give or take. What can I say, I had a weak moment and bought the new one, which is the first "current season" rod I own, not that that means a whole lot.

You'll be happy with either, enjoy!
