Anyone out there using the Albright A5?
Anyone out there using the Albright A5?
I've used the A5 9ft 5wt before. It's much better than the albright GP series, it's a faster action rod and I guess it could be good for indicator nymphing but I just lawn casted it, never really fished with it. I am thinking about getting one in a 9ft 9wt for the salt because you can find them very cheap on the internet.

Speaking of 9WT's I hooked into a nice bluefish blitz last week. Nothing big but it was pretty fun. Birds were working all over the beach...
Whats up man i have three albright a-5 they suck ive had two of them break on snags while my tippet Which is 5x stay intact.
.
If i was you buddy id spend my money on a tfo or somthing better.
albright a-5 has no backbone they are not greatly made.
I didnt even bother to send mine back ill just eat the loss and learn a great lesson you get what you pay for.
Theres a reason why sage and all these other rod builders have been around along time Quality Beats Quantity all day long.
Hope this helps.

thanks for the info, I ended up getting a good deal on an Echo rod which I've been breaking in the last few days on the Farmington. Nice rod so far, but my reel is off balanced.
What Echo rod did you get? I'm thinking about gettin a 9ft 5wt Echo 2 from Dave Goulet, with his sale going on it's a great deal. I'd put a Battenkill barstock 4 on it, simple, cheap and effective.

Hey Kyle, I purchased the Echo 8'6" 4wt Goulet had on special. I then ran over to UpC to purchase a new reel. I've been really pleased on the action and performance of the echo, but the reel I got doesn't match my rod as far as balance.
what reel?

I purchased the Ross flystart 2 on special from UPC. I very pleased with the drag system, but it's too heavy for my 4wt.
I have an Albright EXS. 9 ft 4wgt. It is an excellent rod. I've landed many large fish including a striper (dont ask why I was using a 4 wgt.) It has a smooth moderate fast action. I cant say anything bad about the Albrights. In fact its become my go to general purpose rod over my Scott G series( both 4 and 5 weight) and my Scott S3. I have alot of rods and the Albrights, TFO's and some of the less expensive "name" brands are every bit as good as the best rods we were fishing 10 years ago. Albeit many are made in S. Korea or China...I dont love that but it is how things are right now...and laying down $700 in this economy to me is personal economic suicide...
