    Preparing for Penns.

I will be traveling up to Penns this coming weekend. What would be dream flies (nymphs mostly) to use? I know that they are famous for the drakes (I will be there too early for that) but what would the perfect nymphs be. With so many hatches, what would the pick be under the surface?

I am all ears, or I guess all eyes.

Don't rule out the Green Drakes. I would nymph with Golden Stoneflies, caddis larva in olive or green, I would also have a load of sulpher type nymphs. Also, tie up a bunch of Coffin Flies. If it goes off you will kick your own ass if you dont have any. It should fish well in the EARLY am. If its sunny out it will be tough.

I talked to Paul from TCO today who lives on Penn's Creek. He said Penn's is fishing great right now, March Browns are working well. Check out or stop by the Feathered Hook (http://thefeatheredhook.com/stream.html), they have been updating their stream reports at least once a week now that things have started.

I will check out the shop. I am staying just down the road from there. To be honest with you, I haven't used a dry since last summer, I haven't had a need to. I actually prefer to nymph now, almost all of the time. Last time I was on the Penns was 12 years ago when it was the exact opposite. That was back when a dozen misses and 3 landed fish was a great day out.

Times have changed haven't they you should have some really good dry fly fishing to the evening spinner falls.

I stayed at the Feathered Hook a year ago and had a great time. We hit Penns and the Little J. Caddis nymphs were taken all the time. Have a good time and tell Jonas I said hello ...

    Shogate:

I would concur what Aaron said. Bring coffin, march brown, gray fox, green drakes for dries. When those hatches are on, Penns is second to none. Sub surface caddis larva and or some hellgramites.

Isn't the PA Fly Fishers Jamboree going on this weekend at Hemlock Acres Campground in Spring Mills on the way up to Poe Paddy? Could be a bit crowded in some spots.

Good fishin and Tight Lines to Ya!

Jonas has such a great personality and is usually very excitied! He has a great sense of humor as well! Ask him about his "let's make a deal" uniform at the fly show... Funny stuff!

paddy: The paflyfish jamboree is this weekend. From what I hear, they will be mostly spread out -- shouldnt be too crowded in any one spot
