    Freezing Gear

Does anyone know if you can spread Viral Hemorrhagic Septicemia also known as VHS with you gear? Does freezing your gear kill it. I started sticking my gear in the freezer to try and prevent the spread of invasive species such as Didymo.

From what I have heard i think VHS is mostly through infected fish. I may be wrong but I have never heard of it spreading through gear.

Why don't you just scrub your gear with salt water? maybe I'm wrong but won't that kill anything on your gear?

I don't know if that would kill didymo and I am lazy.

I think it does kill didymo. Aaron even did a video about cleaning your gear with salt water. What if you made a salt water solution in a spray bottle and just sprayed your gear with that? Would that work or do you need to submerge your get in the water? Of course your reels and things like that would then need to be rinsed with fresh water.

    Re: Freezing Gear

When I was my waders with salt water I use a shower brush (the kind with the long handle and sort of soft brissles for your back). It seems to work, I just fill a 1 gallon bucket with warm (not hot) water and dump regular table salt into it then scrub my gear and rinse with cold clean water. I've never done that with reels though?

I was just thinking about something that you could carry with you in the car. Alot of the time I fish two or three rivers in a day and it would be nice to just be able to spray my gear down in between rivers.

I just fish the same water system in the same day. Its easy to just stuff all your gear in the freezer.

VT I see what your saying. I think I read somewhere that freezing your gear works and they only cautioned against moving your waders until they "thaw out" but don't hold me to that.
