Breakfast in PA

Back on April 5th I was fishing at the Little Lehigh and I heard a guy in the parking lot on the phone with his wife. He asked her to take the scrapple out of the freezer for breakfast when he got home. We stopped at a diner on our return to Philly and I ordered some of this scrapple, in spite of the ominous name. I guess it is an acquired taste.
My questions are: Is there a brand of scrapple that is best; is there a way to prepare scrapple that is best; is scrapple really a staple in PA?

I had just about all of them. in my opinion THE BEST scrapple is "Habbersett's"."

BUT its not just the scrapple. Its how the scrapple is prepared and cooked.

Many, many restaurants already have it sliced to the portion they prefer. THEN they do one of three cooking methods:
1. Simply dropping the scrapple in the deep fat fryer. The scrapple might break-up, causing hot fat to go in all directions. This is a total waste of time and good food.

2. Merely putting the portion on the grill or in a frying pan. This is better than methods 1.

3 Dredging the scrapple in all-purpose flour and doing the same as stated in the deep fat fryer - which is another "cardinal sin".

The better restaurants and the professionals dredge the portion and grill it or brown it in a frying pan with bacon drippings. The taste and texture are terrific! This is the method I prefer.

It has to be crunchy on the outside! Every dinner in south jersey has it, and it's great. I beleive most get it from mom and pop butcher shops, but you can get it at deli's raw here.
