Salmon River Report from Douglaston Salmon Run

Here is the link to the report, it's updated daily and is as accurate & honest a description as you will ever find on any fishery- they tell it like it is, good or bad. The report applies only to the lower part of the river that they own, and the mid & upper river may fish entirely different than Douglaston does on any given day though, so keep that in mind. And fishing & conditions can change markedly on anadromous fisheries like this from day to day with the movement of fish, so be aware of that also.

    The Link:

I will cut & past the report on this thread from time to time for those of you too lazy to click on the link! Lol.

Re: Salmon River Report from Douglaston Salmon Run

I spoke to my friend Kevin today. He said it's most likely going to get higher! I hope it's at this level or 1,000 cfs or so. I just don't want to see 2,000 + cfs.

There are lots of fish but with the leaves and debris its tough to get them.

Re: Salmon River Report from Douglaston Salmon Run

    Hey,
I'm heading to the Salmon for my first ever trip Saturday. Any opinions as to where to start. Is the DSR a better jumping off point vs the UFZ or LFZ? Are Orwell and Trout brooks a better place to start? Would the brooks be lower than the main river? Thanks for any help. Frogge.

Re: Salmon River Report from Douglaston Salmon Run

I stay out of the brooks because of the spot em got em snagging that goes on there. I know that the fly zones are holding the largest concentrations. Fish can be found throughout the entire river right now. There have been some really good pushes of fish according to some of my good friends. Just think... The fish are running up that heavy current trying to get to the dam or the hatchery for the most part. They hold in areas that will enable them to relax for a bit before moving again. Fish seams and tailouts of pools especially after heavy water.
