    Farmington - Happy 4th of July, 2008

Drove back up for a few quick hours this morning. I did not arrive that early, so most of the common areas were booked solid. I approached an area and saw a spin fisherman, an indicator nympher and a well-known guide and client. I noticed they were all standing midstream a good distance away. I stalked my way upstream to fish some water right near the bank well behind them and spotted this fish, a 20in male:

    Close-up:

I was able to sight fish with a red San Juan Worm dropper and my medium-heavy Isonychia anchor. On the first cast, this fish tracked the worm for a while then broke off the chase. On the next presentation, he eased over and gently sucked in the Isonychia. It was nice, I set the hook instinctively without mind. This fish put up an excellent fight and spit out a big white sluggo near shore. Water was 58deg. Plenty of olives hatching today. I caught another half dozen or so and a few salmon.

Nice going Alain! That one 20 incher makes it a worthwhile trip.

Nice job on the twenty incher Al. What an experience that must have been to spot him, cast to him twice and watch everything unfold. Great job.

I think that is my favorite way to catch a trout- spot them & then sight nymph.

Alain, aren't you glad you bought the bigger net? It makes landing those bombers alot easier doesn't it.

The Brodin Pere Marquette net is the best. I love the long reach and big opening. It is quite easy to transport when looped through my wading belt.

I even used it to "land" a huge snapping turtle that was crossing Rt. 44 near the river. What a mean creature - it snapped at me the whole time I was relocating it back in to the wet woods. There was a friendly crowd of folks helping out and this made for yet another nice memory of fishing the majestic Farmington!
