Cheap Waders: the really recreational angler

I'm in the market for a pair of cheap waders for my father, who fishes at most 3-6 times a year (if he's lucky). I don't think it necessary (nor could I afford) to get him an expensive pair of Simms G4's, but on the other hand I don't want to get a pair that will become disposable in a matter of hours. He is a conservative angler that probably won't put a lot of wear and tear into these. Also looking for wading boots. So I guess I'm looking for something that has good value, and comfortable.

Alain, I remember you saying you had good luck with Dan Bailey's?

    dave the rave ,
Well buddy ,not that Ive heard from you as of late but Ill make a suggestion anyway brother ! I picked up a pair of hodgman boots they are high on the ankles and Ive been putting to the test and they are comfortable and only cost about 60 dallors ,as for waders I might suggest cabelas here you could drive out to the one in pennsylvinia to try them on there ,nice drive for you and your dad . dan baileys are nice but a bit expensive also look at the cheapest simms they are good and in the 200 range and should last your dad for as much as he goes fishing so long as he cares for them.Anyway good luck man !
fish on ,I caught a 100 pound sturgon on 20lb test!

For waders, I wore the Dan Baileys Barebones and Hodgman Wadelights for many years. The latter are occasionally on sale at the big box sports stores like nutman says, as low as $60. Both boots are completely adequate for the occasional fisherman.

As far as wading shoes, I don't really like the Hodgman offerings. My recommendation is to find a pair of Simms Freestone boots as last year's model. Some of the shops have quite a few pairs, and they cost $60. I sent you a PM with the shop recommendation.

Seems you have what you need in the way of responses already, but I'd just chime in that I'm a fan of the Hodgman breathables as well. They've worked great for me, held up to some thick briars, and aren't going to make me cry when they are finally done in. Would also agree that their line of boots ain't great.
