Fly Tying Desk / Neck and Back Pain

I am interested in what works for you hard core fly tiers.

I tie a lot, but after a short while always develop a stiff neck or back pain. I sit in a good office chair and work on a pedestal vise on a 28in high table. The table height is based on a recommendation I read from A.K. Best.

Have you experienced this problem? Any recommendations? Thank you.

The answer is inexpensive! I use the largest Websters dictionaries! This puts the vise right at eye level!

Adjusting the table an inch or 2 wouldnt hurt .

I tie for a long periods of time sometime.. I now want you mean about the neck pain...
Its like sleeping the wrong way you neck will start to hurt (well at least in the morning)

I have back pain alot when tying..
I use a "snug" fitting weight belt (used for lifting).
1.. Sitting in a chair you tend to slauch..
2.. when sitting for a long time youve put alot of pressure on you lower back.

    alan_b,

Here is my suggestion, place the vise lower and closer to your body.

Raising my arms to accomodate the pedestal base mounted vise will cause stiffness in my arms and shoulders.

Dyna King manuf. two variation and I believe Renzetti has an extension also. Note that you will need a C-clamp to use the extension accessory.

try a small pillow at the bottom of your back. It worked for me during long tying sessions.
