what kind of fishing are you looking to do ,The spring chinook are in ,are you fly fishing ? You will need a ten weight for that you could fish on the sandy river ,30 min outside portland if you are looking for trout that isnt that good close in you need to head to the coast or to east oregon or down to Bend the descutes runs through there fall creek and alot more ,Ive only just begun ,what kind of fishing you looking to do ,and how long are you here for ?

I knew Nutman would have good info on his home waters.

How's the fishing been lately there?

Ive been working and preparing to come home .The spring chinook are in but I havent had time to chase them . The trout fishing in portland sucks ,unless you are after steelhead the clackamas river is close by Id head for mcguver park about thatt that time for spring chinook ,dont think the summers will be there yet .there is a rock by the boat launch there and when the steelhead are in you can cast to them all day easy fishing .
Now if I was going to go trout fishing the upper john day river for rainbows (big bows ) Or head for bend OR the descutes the fall river are supposed to be great .I hear the fall river is excellent .that is about four hours from portland .Oh one other place to look into would be to call the Welches Fly shop they would have better info then me they are about 45b min outside portland ,and the salmon river is close to there ,I heard the fishing is ok there for trout ,you can keep all the brookies you catch they are considered evil out here ( transplants you know)The fly shop is in welches I doint have there # off hand ,but just google welches fly shop .they could set you up with a guide .
If you head for the coast you can find coastal cut throat ,they are hard to find and they like streamers ,beautiful fish and they are C&R only . Look up the upper trask river .If Im able to Ill take you there ,but I dont want to make promises .those are the most beautiful trout I have ever seen (the spruce is the streamer for them )
