Yup, that looks like a big trout fly. Is it tied jointed, or is that merely a stinger hook tied on a snell?

Got a dressing for that pattern? Looks like a Zonker strip off the bag w/ a little Krystal Flash and a trailing stinger hook, and then the Zonker strip palmered on the main hook with a conehead or dumbell eyes?

Yep--it's articulated. You nailed the recipe . They trigger is the "kick" of the tail when the thing is worked.

Here's one from Southern PA that fell to a well-placed Kracken....this fish was about 5 pounds:

I doubt either one of them would have moved for anything smaller.

Very nice fish, looks like you were fishing in a spring creek of some sort from the vegetation in the pic.

Did you loop dub some of the Zonker fibers and figure 8 them around the eyes?

Is the Zonker strip merely tied to or palmered on the rear hook?

The tail is basically a coneless slump buster. The front hook is nothing but a zonker stripped palmered--I often make a wrap in front of the eyes but you really don't need to. The two hooks are joined via a loop of mono or braid. Make the loop very small on set off to the side or the tail will foul. I'll toss in some sparse flash or rubber legs on occassion.

Your streams need to have large fish or these flies will really only move fish and not catch them. It is a fun and effective way to "see" what your stream has as far as trout sizes. You may be surprised! Brown trout get almost 100% piscivorous at large sizes so if all anyone does is nymph fish or fish small streamers you may rarely see the big boys.
