    # of Flies you bring with you.

Picture this... You get all your gear together for a nice little day of fishing a local spot you've heard and been told a lot about, but have never been to yourself. You get your rod, reel, waders, all your stuff ready.

You have a good idea what's going in the water. You've already made up in your mind what you should fish.

You open up your fly box... and it's empty. So you get together your favorite patterns.

How many of each do you bring? And how do you decide how many of each size to bring?

i agree with three weight. but if you had to choose which flies and how many. i would have six of each fly that you know will be good that day. i know that i wont use them all but its good to know that i have them. we have all been there when one fly is heavily outfishing the others and we run out because we only had one or two of them. six is a good rule of thumb. also, you can never have too many. there will be a time and a place for each one. the only other advice that i can give is to make sure that you have the flies organized in your boxes. that is where i think people make a big mistake. they have a lot of flies and they are not placed neatly. you can have a lot of flies provided that they are kept neat and in order.

Sorry Delarock but your question is flawed. Local streem that you have never been to?

Mabey what 2 patterns would you bring Or If I could only fish one fly, it would be. Or On the [fill in the blank] I would bring ...?

I'll play, but Im gonna awnser the what 2 flies would I not be without question that you so eliquintly posed. .....Hummmm..

Two and only two????? For brookies Im going with a patroit nymph and a stimmie both sz 14. Browns...we'll take a sz 12 Tabou caddis(though Ive yet to fish this pattern they look delishious and Ive got about a doz all tied up and ready) and a good ol Mickey finn style streamer.

Whats that? Rainbows you say..... San Juan worm and a Royal wulluf both with sz 12 hook.

    Good question
    Thanks for asking

I'm with everyone that says bring everything and bring a few sizes of your favorites! Size seems to be more important than color...
MB is asking an altogether different question. I think I would definitely want nymphs if I was that restricted (even fish that are actively feeding on top will take nymphs). I like pheasant tails and bead-head caddis larvae.
