    Some Roman Moser "Bling"

Here are a few streamers that Roman Moser was kind enough to tie for me. He is a great guy and even has the same birthday as me. We found that out when he took me to the emergency room. He is the streamer man... Right with Kelly Galloup! ImageUploadedByTapatalk1344645808.184687.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1344645833.948789.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1344645854.811743.jpg

What is the head on the middle one? It looks like a sculpin helmet but a little different. All 3 flies look really nice though.

It's Raman's Goby Head. I've been telling you guys for a while that he came up with the heads that fish skull took. He should have patented it. He was also the first person to use metal beads on nymphs as well. He is a very intelligent person indeed. Like Davy he has made major contributions to the sport, many that most will never realize!

He has been an true innovator for quite a long time. I did some searching for some of his stuff years ago and came up pretty short other than bits and pieces here and there. I saw an article in an english mag sometime in the early 90's that turned me on to him. It seems that the gap between European Angling and North American Angling is slowly closing (not only referring to Euro-nymphing). Anyhow, it must have been cool to meet him. Is it something you could write about to share with the rest of North America?

Roman is a good friend of mine for very many years, no doubt one of the foremost innovators in the sport and a darn good angler.
Roman had many new concepts for large streamers way before Kelly. He used a material he marketed called Pushile, if l remember how to spell it, all be it there are similar materials out there today. Which more or less you wind as a hackle and then cut to shape after which you can color it with panatone pens.
Yes, AJ is correct Roman did come up with the fish skulls and was one of the guys who created the interest in bead heads. Back in the old days we would paint lead before the use of then brass beads before all the others came along in different colors, sizes and weights.
He also created a very unique leader system way before others followed suit. Which was a system that allowed for you to add to a mincon attached to the fly line and to that additional leaders of different types, float to fast sink. Same as poly leaders and others produced now days by others.
His regular trout flies are also very different to what you find in general stores, such as his balloon caddis.
He is also a great caster.
He at one time very much favored the Fenwick Ironfeather range of rods, not so sure what he likes today.

He did a lot and the shame is that it goes largely un noticed.

You are right an amazing caster for sure. It's a shame he does not get the notoriety that you two and some others who really brought fly fishing along to what it is now deserve.

A funny thing is that he never French nymphed before I came to see him. He e mailed me a few times saying that it should be outlawed because it's so productive! I was so happy to be able to share something with him.

I am so fortunate to have and be able to spend time with world class anglers like yourself, Roman and Simon, just to mention a few. It's all about learning and you guys have so much to offer and I wouldn't be where I am now with knowledge if you guys weren't kind enough to share with me. For that I am grateful.

    Sherpa,

I wrote a piece already and am on a second one.
