    wading boot shoe laces

I fish three or four days a week sometimes every day. Consequently I wear stuff out. One of the most trivial but annoying things is how fast I wear out wading boot shoe laces and the ability of the laces to stay tied. I tie a double knot but during the course of a day I have to retie a couple of times. I love my simms wading boots but I think that the round laces that come with them suck. They last me about a month. I am currently experimenting with cabelas flat shoe laces. So far they hold a knot better and look like they are wearing better. Time will tell. I know this topic is a little silly but I would like to find shoe laces that last and hold a knot.

Actually its not silly. Round laces don't stay tied as well as flat laces. Sometime in the last 20 years all the sneaker companies switched over to round laces, I have no idea why. Are your laces wearing out on the metal hooks up near the ankle? I have gone through countless sets of laces (2 or 3 per season) due to breakage on this part of the boot.
I have switched over to workboot laces (the yellow and brown ones). They last a little longer but are still round. They do stay tied a little bit better.
The other suggestion would be to go over to a boot that uses plastic hooks/hardware on the boot. My Orvis side zips have plastic hardware and the laces seem to slide through the hardware with alot less friction. The original laces have almost a year on them.
The last suggestion is to try a boot with the BOA system. No laces. Never tried it but everyone who owns them loves it.

i just bought a pair or korker boots that have stainless steel laces and no knots (there is a locking ratchet thereon). too new to know if I like that system or not .

other suggestion is to replace the double knot you are using with what used to be called a hikers knot (my son used it on his wrestling shoes) . when you tie your conventional shoe lace knot, instead of running your loop through the center hole once , do so twice. it will not loosen/untie under all but extreme conditions, yet it will untie at the end of the day by pulling on either tag end. HTH.

Garthman, are those BOA lacing system boots? How do you like them so far? They're starting to put them on everything... ski boots, snowboard boots, wakeboard boots, regular hiking boots, etc.

I have been told that parachute cord works great. You could give that a try.

The Korkers cable system is guaranteed for life (so they say). I think it works great for what I do. If the boots loosten up, give 'em a half turn. If you need to take them off, pull the crank wheel and slide them off. Plus you have the goodness of removable soles!! I think Korkers has a winner with this boot. I purchased a pair from a vendor at the fly fishing show this winter and I am happy with themso far.
