    switchin on trout

    Hey guys, I've been having a blast learning spey/skagit ways of fishing. How effective would it be on trout (swingin flies)? Would you think a 5wt switch rod would be an effective way to use summer steelie indi nymph and swing tactics on trout?

    Sorry for the compound question, if anyone here does do this maybe add some tips for those who want to try?

    Sorry if this is dumb, studying for exams so i'm a lil braindead, does that mean you would approve of using switch and skagit techniques on trout?

    I agree with Brandon. Summer steel and trout would be 2 different rod setups. Any steelhead on a 5 or 6 wt. could prove to be a real challenge. While I'm certainly not the best spey caster, I do have a 2 handed 10' 6 wt. that I use for larger rigs on big streams like the Delaware. I almost always use it as in indicator rod with the big stuff like a thingamabobber and 2 tungsten nymphs.

    i often use a 7wt switch with a scandi line for swinging. it's nice in large rivers and large pools. add a poly leader to it and have some fun throwing big flies to big fish
