Possible Nymphing set up

Hi There
This is my first post and I must admit that my fly casting skills are crude but effective. This last year, I have found myself doing more nymphing than anything else. I am in the process of putting together a nymphing outfit to target large browns and summer run steelhead.

I've recently bought a 10 ft ,6wt 4 pc. TFO Signature. I have a perfectly serviceable Redington AS 7/8. I'm wondering if they will match up well or will the AS be too heavy. Should I be looking for a mid-arbor reel such as a redington cross water? Will the tfo cast an 8wt Line? Any line suggestions would be appreciated.

I'd leave the TFO with the #6 line and an 8wt is not too heavy.I've hooked into steelies with a baseball bat Scott 8wt and they would'nt budge.. Reels for Steel should have a mid arbor at the least and disk drag mandatory. For Browns it does'nt matter.

Thank you for your feedback. I will indeed try my redington as reel. It has a wonderful disc drag. Any suggestions of what flavor of 6 wt fly line would be appropriate given my less than stellar casting skills.

Depends on how your fishing. If your bottom bouncing for Steel use a DT #3 line. Typical indi rig I would use something with a heavier head to turn it all over, If your Steelheading don't spend the $$ for a top shelf line. You tend to spend time pulling out snags and battling big fish wich stresses and cracks fly line. Personally I use Cortland 333 and cut the front taper off or just spool the whole reel up with #12 mono.
