Soap Creek blitz or I love that Dirty Water

Today was an unusual day. I caught fish in all the usual spots but as I traveled downstream I noticed the water was becoming cloudy with silt from the thunderstorm the day before. I pulled into Soap Creek one of my favorite spots and the water there was brown. I figured I was doomed but I remember Aaron saying that euro nymphing in cloudy water can be productive. I tied on my biggest rubber leg woven stone-fly and Davy's White Tailed Midge . I caught this fish on the second cast.

I thought this fish was a fluke but I kept hooking and landing fish for the next forty five minutes. I got hits or hook ups and every second or third cast. The fishing tapered off so I moved down stream.

I kept the White Tailed Midge on because it is a black fly that will stand out well in cloudy water. I stooped at this spot and caught six more fish between 15 and 18 inches.

I use the White Tailed Midge everywhere. It is one of my go to flies. The Woven Rubber legs continued to produce as well.

I do not believe there are large Stone flies in the Big Horn . My theory is the fish think they are drowned Hoppers.

I have no idea of the total number of fish I caught but I know I caught a lot . Probably a dozen of the fish were in the 17 to 20 inch range.

    Nice fish!

That's a very good summation regarding the drowned hoppers. I would agree with that one.

    The weave looks very good!

Thanks for the comments about the weave. I work hard to get it right.

Great report, very happy the WTM was working for you, did same for me there last year.
You may well be right about the hopper theory, it makes sense.
Crickets are also a consideration as well as other larger terrestrial bugs.
