    Dockers and Breathable waders

... are not a good mix for winter fishing. :'(

I had a few hours out of work today and crossed route 8 near Waterbury on my way back to Massassachusetts. Somehow I couldn't resist the urge to drive up and check out the Farmington. I called Torrey and got the flow update, about 1000 cfs combined in the TMA, and cold like winter. Wasn't feeling too optimistic.

Fortunately I had some wool socks in the car (that's probably contributing to the lingering odor), so I put those on and donned my breathables. Strolled across a metal bridge and slid down the icy bank to get into the popular pool which will remained unmentioned. No one there, no signs that anyone had been there all day, Yay!

On stepping into the river, I found out that fleece is wonderful. Wearing Dockers under breathables instead of fleece is like finding out that your ex girlfriend is really cool and AND hot. Damn I missed my fleece.

I fished the pool that will remain unnamed for about an hour with no success, got a huge tangle after three casts and had to re tie everything. Got hung up on a small weedy branch behind me and buried the hook right up to the bend in my middle finger while trying to snap the weedy branch.

I decided there were probably no fish there, so I went somewhere else.

After about half a dozen sticks landed and a flock of drowned leaves, I finally hooked a nice little brown

a half hour later another Brown comes to the net

I promise, I'm not squeezing, they are runnin a little thin right now.

    A nice head shot

Trying to split, chew and spit sunflower seeds gives you a pretty good idea how the fine motor skills are performing, and mine were sayin it's time to get goin.

Two hours, two holes, and two fish. A fine December day if ya ask me.

If the line ain't tight, ya ain't doin it right

Entertaining post and nice fish! I will bet you throw your fuzzy pants in the car from now on.

I've been wracking my brain and for the life of me have no idea where you could have been fishing...

If it makes you feel any better, yesterday while going through my mountain of tying material, I was kneeling on the floor and buried an upholstery tack all the way into my knee - I got a few grouse tail fans from a friend and he pinned them all together at the base of the fan with these tacks. Well, one fell out and my knee found it. At least it wasn't barbed.

Nice report Eddy, glad you got to have a few hours on the river by yourself. Great pics.

Beautiful pictures Ed, what camera did you use?

You must have been damn cold! I remember fishing the Housy one time, years ago, I got so cold that my fingers lost all their strength, I literally could not turn the key in my car door, my fingers could not squeeze the key enough to turn it. I had to stick my hand under my arm for a while to get into the durn car.

    Eddie,

Awesome story! Now I know why you called me mid-day! I was in the middle of teaching. If I were at lunch I would have answered. I am glad that you got some free time to enjoy yourself. I know that you have been super busy for a long time. Kudos!

Hilarious post! Excellent story telling. I am nearly inspired to try fishing with Dockers just to get the feel of it! Nice fish too.
You can tune a piano, but you can't tuna fish.
