    Hickory Run 6/1/2008

Hickory Run is a small stream under catch and release. I did catch 4 small brookies and missed many more. (I am not as used to the barbless hooks as I should be.) Down stream from the office is a bit bigger with Sand Spring Run joining in. Up stream is pretty small and a little tough to navigate. My 7.5' rod would have been a better choice from what I took with me. The gypsy moth caterpillar were everywhere. My wife had some success on my only caterpillar pattern in my box.

A little smaller than I anticipated but very beautiful stream with some nice Brookies!

I fished Hickory Run one time. It was a lot of fun and it was loaded with small wild brook trout.nothing big though. I would say a trophy there is 12 inches long.

My largest was actually up stream of the park office, about 9" in one of the plunge pools. On a high note, my wife did start taking her own fish off the hooks! We went to our local pond to teach her how to use dry flies. 45+ bass and blue gills between the two of us!

I fished there once this spring, maybe a month ago. Lots of little brookies and lots of brambles. Broke my line twice just sneaking through the brush. It is a fun spot and definitely bring the smallest rod you have. I had a 9ft 5 wt when I was there because we just stopped off, it felt huge. The best fish I caught was maybe 7in.

Taking you own fish off or putting your own worm on, are the big breakthroughs.
