Ken Lockwood Gorge - 8/19 trip report

So today I snuck out early for some river time. The river reports had temperature down to 64 and my thermometer confirmed. So it was on today. I heade d to the gorge and it was quiet with low water, slightly clouded with overcast skies.

All in all I was very happy with the day, I fished from 7 to noon. Seems all fish I caught were wild, with this Bow being the largest.

Quite a few small browns and brookies. I'm getting very good at detecting subtle takes. This poor guy almost got slung into the trees. I hooked a bunch of these little guys. Are they full grown, no parr markings?

I even caught a golden trout! I was like what the heck is that on my line? Carp don't run like trout, he mostly just bull dozed around until I got him to the net. So if they're so spooky I must have been spot on my presentation.

I have a few interesting observations on my weighted flys which I'll add to the other thread for those that are interested. Todays flys were woven polish, brown over yellow, frenchies, and rainbow warriors being the most successful.

Nice job at the Gorge. That 3rd picture is a sucker though and not a golden trout. You can tell in part by its lips. They can get pretty big and give you a nice fight. Most of the time though they don't jump. I had one on recently that was close to 5 lbs.

If conditions improve I'm thinking about KLG when I get home. Well after all of the stockings and the remaining stocked fish are a bit wiser it is a great place to fish. They color up nicely from a natural diet of bugs and there is plenty of wild fish to catch. I'm tying wovens right now. Sz 10 in Danville brown and Rumpf golden yellow. And sz 12 in UniFloss pumpkin and olive. The 1 ply UniFloss ties sz12 real nicely!

Size 10 wovens, DMC yellow and dark brown with a grey spikey squirrel dubbing collar. When I got there I checked some rocks and say a bug about size 16, so I trailed a size 16 frenchie, Iron Lotus, and triple threat. Had good luck on size 18 rainbow warrior too.

I tried a woven crane fly and caught the sucker...
