I tried out the KL gorge today. I fished from about 12 to 2:30 and definitely missed a few strikes.... ( i need to step up my indicator game).... Just used a basic single hook rig with a small splitshot about 16 inches up from my hook... I tried a phesant tail nymph with green wrappings on the back.... No luck so switched to a beadhead pheasant tail nymph and hooked up to a decent brown that i would estimate between 13 to 15 inches... I will post some pics when i get on my computer

Was the brown stocked, holdover or wild? I'm curious, I wonder what the flooding did there. Did you take any stream photos?

It was my first time at the gorge so I didn't have much to compare it to. Although, I could definitely tell that the access roads were damaged pretty bad/washed out. The river must have came right up to the access road at certain points since there were weird gravel deposits and large grooves (maybe just from run off though)...Also, I could see large branches/debri washed up onto the island where the river braids just above the covered bridge so I assume that section was completely submerged...I only snapped one shot of the river which I will attach.

To be honest, I couldn't tell if the Brown was wild or stocked. I would guess it was either a wild fish or a holdover since the fins seemed healthy...I always thought that stockies stunted fins could grow back / become healthier over the seasons. Let me know what you think...Happens to be my first brown trout in a long time, and my first on a fly rod

Looks like he has an adipose fin, if so he was wild.

A stocked fish;s fins will grow back but you can still tell the difference with the struxture of the fins. The rays of bone on a wild fish's fins will be almost perfect as they span out from the body. A stock fish's fins will be irregular in growth.
When they come to conficate your gun, LET THEM HAVE IT...........Then reload.

I went fishing with OnTheFly, it was only my 4th or 5th time at the Gorge. I usually come in from the side by Shannon's Fly shop. The road is only open up to the first parking section after that its closed. This kind of sucks because I wanted to bring my grandfather there and he would only be able to go to the handicapped area since he can barely walk. He fished there a lot when he was younger and wanted to give me some pointers. I wonder if they will fix the road soon so you can get to the handicapped area again.

I'm not sure who is responsible for the road in terms of maintenance, but the road is about destroyed. I've fished the gorge for over 50 years and have never seen it so torn up. In this economy I'm guessing that the road will not be fixed for quite a while, unless some extra 'bama bucks miraculously appears. Curiously I saw some people with maps, etc walking along the road about a month ago. I should have talked to them to see what ws going on, but unfortunately I didn't. On the plus side it's keeping the numbers of fishermen down noticeably, which is good news for the fish....

I hope it never gets repaired.... I just can't believe that the piers survived. Whoever designed them was serious about them not coming down.
