Thread: Fading Away :(

    Fading Away :(

After a spectacular season of dry dropper fishing, I can say that its fading fast. As the water temperatures drop and insect activity lessons nymphing is becoming the go to technique. The trout as not as freely rising and as the fish change so do the tactics needed to catch them. I caught some of these fish using dry dropper, but the big one took a woven caddis fished Euro style. Can't argue with the technique's effectiveness when there is a large kyped male brown trout lying in your net

I did see some olives hatching both days and when the olives were hatching a small bwo nymph produced very well. When they weren't hatching a cranefly and woven larva were the ticket...

    The "big one"

    The fly...

    It was CRAZY!

    Re: Fading Away :(

I'm new to the whole fly-fishing scene... finding everyone on here is pretty advanced. Any ideas on where to start? I found this video on World Fishing Network, but I'm looking for more info... just to get me started.

    Re: Fading Away :(

Thats a good video for begginer nymphing. What i did was i i took a nymphing seminar at Hudson VAlley Angler in reddhook and that dratically improved my skills. I learned alot from fishing forums but TPO nymphing forum is prolly one of the best out there. To be honest i looked for good nymphing videos on youtube and i never found anything special but fly fishing magizens have good articles on nymphing

Or hire a guide like Aaron. He'll have you catching fish in no time flat.
I never like that 1.5 -2x the depth of the water. Never made since to me.....

    Mildred,

I agree with E guy. When you are first starting out it's best to hire an experienced guide to help with the learning curve. I think it gets you started on the right track without starting with bad habits. I have taken several guide trips this year and have learned something new every time. Good Luck and yes this is a great place to get good advice!

Great post, Aaron. Every fish is just beautiful. I've not wet a line in a bit, but now, you've got me thinking about it.
