Fishing to Die For ... Well Almost

I just could not keep myself away from fishing today. I wanted to go to Spring Creek but with the snow and high winds I didn't want a repeat of last week. So I headed down south where it was "supposed" to be warm... not!

Now for the near death story...

I was working my way upstream. There were trees falling all over the place. I heard some creaking and this tree in the picture fell in the stream right in front of me. If I were another fifty feet upstream, this thingwould have hammered me into the stream bottom as if I were a nail.


Here is another tree that was not in the way when I walked in!


Ice on the waders... that happens south of the Mason Dixon line???


The reasoning behind the slow fishing is that the water flow is made up of surface water from Prettyboy Reservoir. The water temps are in the mid thirties where if it were being released form the bottom it would be in the mid forties. Anyway, 8 wild trout isn't too shabby for a winter day.

The weather is Bruuutal over here right now. Sunny skies but almost subzero temps. Chris hit the rez today and caught a gorgeous lake run brown - 8lb range with hookjaw. He tails it and lifts it out of the water and immediately the gills froze over and stopped moving. He immediately returned the fish to the water and it took nearly 5 minutes for a good solid release - needless to say his hands were nearly frost bitten. That's cold!
