I've never fished Cranberry Lake but I've fished Upper Saranac and that are for 15 years now almost every summer. Usually with regular casting gear but last summer I used my fly rod. Poppers around the lilly pads will work very well for bass and even smaller pike. The decent sized pike will be in the milfoil beds and anything that looks like bait fish will do the job, the best colors for the pike are usually white, silver and gold. The big pike for the most part are going to be out of reach during the day on the fly rod but at night around the milfoil beds they come up for food. For the big boys I'd go topwater and nothing is to big, I've seen them take full grown ducks. Remember there are pike in the Adirondacks well over 20 pounds.
For trout in the rivers I've never done it so I couldn't give you any sound advice. You could try calling the fly shops in Lake Placid they might know better. You can try this place. http://www.adirondackflyfishing.com/flyhatches.html
