    TLS Orvis Rod

So last night when I was leaving the river I slipped and fell. Well the outcome of my fall was me breaking my sage 5wt. So I will be sending that out to Sage. Well I know its going to take some time to get it back so I bought a new Orvis 5wt 8'6" TLS rod. I need a 5wt rod right? Orvis is also doing a promotion right now. If you buy one of their rods you get a free reel. I got a 200 dollar reel for free.

Sweet deal, I like the Orvis reels. Did you get the battenkill large arbor?

it makes you wonder...if Orvis has to give away 200 dollar reels to get people to buy their rods : Market that bad or is their stuff that overpriced that they can eat the cost of a reel and still make money on the rod.

All of the company's mark their stuff up that much. Do you think it cost $200 to $900 make a fiberglass rod? That are mass produced. I think not. The reels are also mass produced. Every company makes bank off of their products. Why do you think TFO rods are so cheap. They are not making as big of a profit.

I used to work for an orvis dealer they have a very nice markup. It is sicken how much Orvis marks up there goods. Just look at the price of an orvis zinger there name alone doubles the price!

Companies have every right to charge what they want for what they make...Orvis has a higher markup than most for a variety of reasons...the least of which is R&D

Orvis is one of the best marketing machines out there. I applaud it....they have to pay for the marketing spend somehow.

As long as we pay it they'll keep charging it.

More importantly VT have you had it out yet and if so how do you like it?

I have not used my rod yet. But I have used TLS rods before. The guide service I work for gets a deal on Orvis gear. So they have a lot of Orvis rods. Mainly TLS and T3. When we do casting clinic's Orvis sends us their more expensive rods like the Helios and Super Fines to play around with. If you ever save up the cash buy a Helios.

The helios is too fast for my taste. For a trout rod anyway. Might like it for salt though.
