    Penns creek water clarity?

Debating a destination tomorrow.........play with the sore lipped predictable Spring Creek trout or head over to Penns and nymph some bigger water?
Anybody close enough that they took a peek at Penns? Looks like 550cfs right now and dropping and wondering what the clarity is like?

I wish I could tell you to call TCO State College and talk to Paul. He lives on the stream.
I talked to him not too long ago and he said it looked perfect for streamer fishing. If you go there please let me know what it looks like! I have been dying to go there.

I think I AM going to go there........I'm sure I could dredge something up on some Stonefly nymphs....I'll get there early enough that if it looks too funky I'll just pack up ship and keep on up the road to Spring or Fishing Creek.
Gonna be chilly down in there. :-[

I can't be much of a help on Penn's but, I did hit up Fishing Creek this past saturday. The water level and clarity were both near perfect.

How did you make out on Fishing Creek?

At that level, it is pretty high, but it is fishable. Should drop to 500 tomorrow which puts you in the game. I would not think clarity is an issue. At 500, Streamers, pools, and some close to shore nymphing or picking your spots. Getting around nymphing may be difficult, but also depends where you fish it.

One more day would be much better, but isn't that or should have been here yesterday always the case

    Kaz,

Maybe we will be able to give those poor fish a beating there this weekend.

That is what I am thinking......All of Central PA should be in good shape this weekend so there are options if one is not fishing well.

We did fairly well on BFC. We probably caught a little over a dozen fish ranging from 10-15" in a little over 3 hours. Big ugly golden stones were our most productive fly of the day.

We also got expore some water I have never fished before. While walking up I noticed a bunch of fish stacked in the tail of a slow, almost meadow like stretch. After 20 minutes of trying to fish subsurface midges and baetis nymphs to them I decided to go big. I threw on a #6 slumpbuster and swung it down through a few times. On my third retrieve I watched a GIANT brown reveal himself and make a b-line to my fly. As he approached I could see a mouth the size of a softball clamping down on the streamer. Nerves got the best of me and I tried to stripset; as if I were trying to bury the hook into a pike, and all I heard was THWACK!!! which was the sound of my 4x shattering right in front of my eyes. I was nearly in tears watching him dart back off to the abyss never to be seen the rest of the day. This fish would have easily beaten my biggest PA fish ever, which currently stands at around 25"

A dozen there is 50 on Spring Creek. Good job on the fish... I would have like to see the big guy as I am sure that you would have too. When he gets rid of the hook you will have another crack at him.
