I took a bunch of pics of the lake.. where is the water? I hope that get a ton of snow to fill it back up. Just thought you guys would like to see the result of a broken dam.












On a side note, many of these dry areas are places where I hammered the trout this summer.

wow, that is some serious water loss. When such a condition occurs, what happen to the fish? Do they merely move inward, following the perimeter of the lake? I imagine that would be similar to a river with extreme water releases: the fish adapt to the conditions and move to find shelter.

Dave,

The fish will move into the deeper sections and also enter the Madison river mouth.
There is a very distinct channel througth the lake from the river which flows out of the park.

I have seen this lake at this level in the past.

The fish will also cruise in the evenings in the shallows which can provide some spectacular fishing l can tell you that from experience.

my first day there 2 weeks ago , the water was screaming out the gate , by wed, they had made the temporary repair. we fished below Kelly's place , and the fishing after the water had dropped was fantastic . with an average snow fall for 400 to 600 inches a year in west Yellowstone and on top of it was a dry summer ,they didn't get rain from the end of June it just added to the problem . they where already getting snow in the upper elevations and had 2 days of rain . the low water I'm sure started to push the fish early this year . up into the park.
