Re: Davy Wotton SLF Dubbing
Davy is the SLF expert and I'm sure that he will personally reply to your question. My philosophy is that as long as it's the color I want and it rolls on the thread the way I want it to, I use it whether I am tying nymphs or dries. I've often thought that the shiny characteristic of synthetics inhanced the effectiveness of a fly whether it floated or was sunken. Additionally, synthetics seem to be more resistant to discoloration from water that contains lots of algae.
Re: Davy Wotton SLF Dubbing
I use natural materials...
I ask because it seems to me that SLF dubbing could be good for "giving life" to nymphs.
Re: Davy Wotton SLF Dubbing
i have 2 dubbing boxes filled with davy's slf, and i want more.
by far, for synthetic dubbing, it is the easiest to dub onto thread in a manageable manner. love it, i use it primarily for nymphs as I dont really tie dry flies yet.
Re: Davy Wotton SLF Dubbing
Davy has had more to do with the development of Wapsi dubbings than anyone. Much of what they sell comes from Davy as the bought his company out and thus own the multitude of blends he created. That includes SLF which is short for (Synthetic Living Fiber).
Re: Davy Wotton SLF Dubbing
I believe SLF was created as a substitute for seal's fur.
Re: Davy Wotton SLF Dubbing
Im sure if he sees this thread he will tell us why he developed it.

Hello Davy,
this is SLF standard dubbing in rust brown, brown olive, ginger and cinnamon.
Re: Davy Wotton SLF Dubbing
Clema,
'
OK that is the original l produced as a seal fur sub, it is not a buoyant material but is good also for larger dries, you would need to add a floatant.
This material has use more so for nymphs, wet flies, and streamers.
There are other ranges that are good for dries, which are a finer grade material.
Davy.
