Why is that?
Re: Gatlingburg, Tennessee
Someone I know had his car cleaned out of all his rods and equipment while he was in the river down there. I know that can happen anywhere so I guess its not fair of me to say that. My kids were just at the Bonaroo festival in Tennessee this past week end and said all the people they met were wonderful. It's a beautiful state. You just have to be careful of your stuff no matter where you go in any state.
Re: Gatlingburg, Tennessee
ok
I'll be carefull... but where? :o)
Re: Gatlingburg, Tennessee
Clema,
Pick up a fishing license for Tennessee or North Carolina and head in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park because both licenses are good anywhere within the park. Get a map, pick a blue line and go fish. The streams are loaded with wild browns and rainbows and native brookies. If you are willing to hike a little bit and get away from the roads the fishing gets even better. If you going to fish the streams in Gatlinburg, you will need Tennessee license, trout stamp, and special Gatlinburg stamp as well. I've always fished in the park when I've been down there. It's a blast.
Re: Gatlingburg, Tennessee
ok Garrett thanks a lot.
I saw there is so much streams there!!! It's not easy to know where to go...
I'll get informations about where is the hotel exactly, and try to find a stream close from it...
Is there so much trouts everywhere there? :)
Re: Gatlingburg, Tennessee
Clema,
I haven't fished in Gatlinburg itself but have fished in the Park. Most every stream is full of little, wild trout. And if it isn't you are only a short distance away from one that is. I love fishing the Smokies.
Re: Gatlingburg, Tennessee
Well, I've been invited there. I don't know where it is exactly. Especially because I've never been in USA :)
so I'll try to get informations about the location.
that's great to ear there are a lot of possibilities... I hope my rod 's gonna warm up! :)
Re: Gatlingburg, Tennessee
The Little River in the park is a good start. Good size water but it gets some pressure. stay away from the river through town it ispretty artificial, lots of big stockies swimming around like a fishing tank if i remember correctly.
Re: Gatlingburg, Tennessee
Clema, l have fished this area many times in the past. Big fish are not on the cards that's for sure, but you may well be challenged by the small fish found in the park streams, fast taking little devils.
Now you will have to be a bit of a mountain goat to deal with some of these waters, due to rock structures, all be it it is mainly pocket water you will be fishing, which is where you will find the fish.
You really do not need a great many flies here. A good selection of generic nymphs such as hares ears, PTNs, , add to that a range of generic dries such as elk hare caddis, ants, hares ear, Adams in sizes 14 /16 will do great.
Small soft hackles also worth to have here.
Rods, many of these creeks are very narrow and have close overhanging vegetation, my choice here is a 8ft 3wt rod.
There are two flies that are well known for these waters, one called Telico the other Yellowhammer.
If there is any advice l would give you it is this. Walk well away from easy access zones the majority fish. You will find the fishing way better.
The Little River is as stated here well stocked with mainly Bows.
Pity you were not a little close to Arkansas, you could then come fish the White river with me, its a days drive from Gatlinburg.
While you are there go visit the Little River Outfitters fly shop, great guys there.
Enjoy your trip to the USA.
Davy.

thanks again. i'll try to find all the streams...

I'd assume that like anywhere, people like to steal stuff? :(
Re: Gatlingburg, Tennessee
A few yrs ago, I was fishing on the Neversink under an old iron bridge. From my position, I could see my car parked by the side of the road. Left my doors unlocked and watched as a couple fishin' dudes got in there. As I was down in the water, I couldn't do a damn thing as I watched them take my cell phone from my car!! Lock your car up!! Even fisherman may steal!!
