Fly Tying Travel Case

I will be helping teach fly tying with my TU Chapter and I really just want to be able to travel with some fly tying materials on my fishing trips. I was wondering what you guys might use for suck purposes.

Try the WJ, I have no expierence with it but it looks like it will carry your basic essential materials.

That just does not look big enough and the Regal bag is a bit more than I want to spend.

if just using a bag for teaching...I converted an old messenger bag to hold materials/tools, etc.

when traveling I usually don't bring anything with me....at the end of the day I am too busy trying to catch up with everyone else and having a couple of cold beverages.

I put my materials in a large plastic container and I bring the tying station.

Aaron I usually have used the Rubbermaid bin to carry stuff before. I really am thinking I of getting a Fishpond Bag. i found a deal on one almost half price which is still expensive but I guess I have always kind of wanted one. i might hold off and use the plastic bin.

I got the fishpond for xmas two years ago and it works well - I keep my renzetti traveler in it, plenty of room for everything, its shocking how much it fits. Shockingly expensive, but I believe you can get it 50% off at a few web sites. Fishpond has out simmsed simms in that they easily have the best quality and utility of fly fishing merchandise, but the prices are so absurdly expensive you really have to think twice about buying the stuff, even when on sale.

I also have a few lock & lock boxes and a few "really useful" boxes which are both very nice for home storage and keeping the stink of hare's masks to a minimum.

It is ordered and on its way! yeah it is expensive even at almost 50% off. I am sure it will work great. Yeah Fishpond is over priced but they do make a great product!

It almost looks like the WJ, is it bigger?

It appears to be I really just like the look of it better. it looks sturdy. It is also a little bigger according to the specs.

Sorry to post this after you've all ready ordered. The best fly tying case I've ever found is a rolling suitcase. There are 1000s to choose from. You can get a hardcase if you desire that level of protection. I use the largest one i could find, but then again I always feel compelled to bring the kitchen sink. They come pretty cheap too especially for the amount of storage possibilities you gain. Just my 2 cents.

Fly Tying cases seem to fall under the small luggage type bag category, and we all know how damn expensive quality luggage is. Fishpond & others make some truly great tying bags, but as mentioned they are expensive for sure- I love the comment about Fishpond has "out simmsed" Simms- a new phrase has been born! Lol.

Quite frankly that's a lot of bucks to carry f/tying gear. I carry my vise and the other basics including some materials in a 15 X 8 X 11 plastic container, with the handle, available online Cabela's or Dick's in their guns department----it it big enough to handle anything I need when traveling. Any Additional materials can be stored in another plastic container. A $20 bill will handle both containers and carry enough materials for my average 10 student class. If you have the bucks then forgive my interruption. I would rather spend that kind of money on a new reel, line, rod supplies etc. But that must be my penurious Scotch ancestry peeking through my kilts and under my sporran :o.

That about what i have been using i just got tierd of that and wanted something new. Sometimes I enjoy fly tying a lot more than fishing so I don't mind spending the money its one of teh joys of being single and being able to.

What I used for a while was an old laptop computer bag, lots of zippers and pockets. If you dont plan on doing requests at the shows, you have more than enough room to carry the required materials for a 1/2 dozen or so patterns. These can be had for free at the least, and under $20.00 new on that popular auction site. CJ
