Used Berkley Vanish 2lb test over the weekend as tippet. At a diameter of .006 it is equal to 5x. Worked well for me all day with the exception of once. I was using a thingamabobber and had it rigged close to my double surgeons knot when setting the hook the line snapped at the indicator. I have heard of this happing with thingamabobbers but I dont know how true it is. I will continue to try this line besides that once the line seemed quite strong and definitely has a stronger breaking strenght than 2lbs.

Re: Berkley Vanish
If its labeled like most spin lines, it is prob 3-4# test, possibly more. The diameters aren't always accurate either.

Re: Berkley Vanish
If I remember I need to get a battery for my micrometer and I will post the true diameter.

Re: Berkley Vanish
The 2lb P-Line Halo fluorocarbon has a much smaller quoted diameter at 0.004in or 7X.

Re: Berkley Vanish
So did anybody ever mike out the Vanish or Halo fluoro?

Re: Berkley Vanish
I measured the vanish my mic measured it at .006. Not sure of the accuracy of it its digital, doesn't have numbers on the slide that small and has a few years of automotive use on it.

Re: Berkley Vanish
.006" would make it 5x. Like I mentioned, it probably actually tests out at more then 2#. Modern copolymer & fluoro FF tippets like Rio & Frog Hair test out at around 5# or so.

I've been using the new Berkely 12, 8 and 4 lb test Trilene fluorocarbons to step down my leaders. their diameter are .013,.011, and .007 respectively. Haven't had a problem with them yet. I am also using Vicious Fluorocarbon in 20 and 15 lbs for the butt end

Re: Berkley Vanish
Why would you use fluorocarbon in your butt section?

Re: Berkley Vanish
I tried out the P-Line Flouroclear this weekend...flouro coated not true flouro..but its cheap at 7.99 for 300 yrds or so...I used the 4lb and the 3lb for my Euro-nymph and Indicator nymphing set ups...I have to say...its pretty decent stuff not too stiff, held up well for my knots and I landed many fish on it, I figured I'd go halfway to the dark side of using flouro with a flouro-coated mono. I will probably keep on using it, since it costs about 15% of what rio or orvis mono costs..unless I need to drop to 6x, I couldnt find any 2lb but I know they make it...I think the 4lb measures 4x and the 3lb measures 5x(its on the box but I dont have one near the puter...)

Re: Berkley Vanish
This is an interesting article. I switched from Vanish to Seaguar and Maxima because of this.
