Feel free to move this to the NJ section if it is more appropriate there.
This morning I woke up with an idea for the Crew. If it doesn't resonate with anyone lese so be it. My thought was a TPO clave of sorts here in NJ in the City of Lambertville (its really just a little town). Anyway, just below Lambertville is the wingdam on the Delaware, which is one of the few places this far down on the D that bottlenecks the river. Needless to say, it can also provide great fishing for anadromous species who will stage there and below before pushing further up river. Or so I am told. I have yet to fish the wing dam with a fly, but used to as a young'un with a spinning outfit trying to catch shad. Great fun can be had there. I thought perhaps this would be an opportunity for exploration during the shad or striper run (or the period where they overlap) for some of you saltwater enthusiasts. There's two great microbreweries on either side of the river there: Triumph in New Hope and River Horse in Lambertville, so refreshing suds would be available to those who showed. Now, this may be premature and more appropriate for next year after I get a season to fool around and try some stuff out because by no means can I offer any insight, but I thought I'd throw the idea out there for anyone who might be interested and/or curious.
As always, your thoughts are appreciated. I will be out there evenings as soon as the flow becomes manageable and I'm not fearing for my life! 8 weight and sink tip in hand!

To be honest I have zero interest in going there! I would be happy to have it in the gorge. They have a nice stae park near there as well.
Aaron- You're missing the point... NO trout. I know this is trout predator online, but trout wasn't the idea.

Re: TPO on the lower D
No its a joke with Regan. He went on a striped bass trip with Justin and after not catching any striped bass they ended up flinging huge herring to catch a few. Justin said he was like "oh boy" when the bait came out.
Hey I use bait at times as well ::)

Re: TPO on the lower D
I was just making sure you weren't one of "those guys". The people who tell you using bait for any species is either a sin or it is cheating.
While I don't fish with bait for trout or muskies ever, I do alot of walleye fishing. Believe me, the bait will be flying this summer when I am after eyes. Unless someone finds a way for me to catch walleyes on a fly on Lake Erie, I will be dunking crawlers...lol.

No Aaron's just busting balls! And flinging herring should be a sport of its own. Not only that, but if you ask Justin, I am the master at catching herring.

I once spent the afternoon hammering SMB at that same location, I was all by my lonesome. But not sure what the zoo would be like for the shad season.
I might be game. What weekend were you guys thinking.

Essox-
Aaron fishes bait all the time for Steelhead- skein fished under a float on the centerpin. Believe me, he has no issues with anyone fishing bait!
That's how last year went. I don't know, what do you guys think?

Re: TPO on the lower D
It's usually lousy with fishermen during the shad run but there are plenty of fish there. In fact, Lambertville and New Hope, PA(across the river) have a big Shadfest every year. I've turned out for beer and it's pretty fun.

The Shadfest is fun. Riverhorse is some tasty beer. Maybe I will do some advance scouting this year to see if its worth it, and if it is we can set up something next year.
