if you had to choose four flys (2 nymphs and 2 dry flys) to
take with you and they are the only ones you could use forever and ever and ever, what would they be and in what sizes?
Only one? Prince Nymph in size 14. It is often my goto search fly, and I use it year around. It is a good all-around attractor.
My 2 cents.

Re: If you had......
Assuming the question is for the PA/NY area, I guess I'd go with the following in a variety of sizes:
1) My rusty parachute. (Doubles as dun and spinner. An Adams might do as well.)
2) Hans Weilenmann's CDC & Elk caddis. (Can also be fished sunken.)
3) BHPT nymph.
4) My Cressbug. (Doubles as a damn good caddis pupa.)

Re: If you had......
Parachute as hopper mentioned
x caddis
pheseant tail
olive caddis larva
If I could have three each I would add a #14 elk hair caddis to the dries and a #14 beadhead hares ear for the nymphs

Re: If you had......
OK, we had this one a while a back.
In my case it would be.
Elk hair caddis.
Adams
GRHE
Partridge and HE soft hackle.
But l might sneak a few more in my pants !!
I would never have one of the nymphs with a bead head as l would be very restricted to what l could do with it, in other words if l needed weight l would add it with shot to suit the water l was fishing, as both of the two l chose are as good fished high in the surface as they are at the bed of the river.

Re: If you had......
Know you said nymph, but if I had only one fly, it would have to be a bugger or a clouser. That way you can catch just about anything that swims.
