Took a fellow TPO member out to a local river today to teach him a little something about EuNymphing. Had a good time but had to work for the fish somewhat. Fish are starting to move into the pockets now on this particular stream. A week or so ago, they were mainly in the deep nymphing slots and pools.
Every fish we caught, save one, were holdovers from at least the fall, since we learned today that it had not been stocked yet.
There was a massive caddis migration/egg laying going on for most of the time. It's that time of year. Didn't try the wets yet, but it should start getting good. Water temps are creeping up to that optimal trout feeding frenzy zone. Starting water temp was 51, but by mid afternoon it had climbed to 61.
Also took a few flower shots as I like to try to associate them with hatches. There's a name for that process, but it escapes me at the moment.
Nicely done as always. Those are great fish, and I can't wait to go there as a change of pace. As you know, I've been thinking about wild flowers, too. When I use to fish in northern Maine a lot, the trilliums there bloom in early June; that's when the Hendrickson hatches up there. It is really good barometer of hatching activity.
