World Fly Fishing Championship Scotland 2009
I found some excellent web-sites with pictures and information. As Davy said, this is clearly a competition for the skilled stillwater fisherman! Four of the five competitive venues are lakes:
- Loch Awe
- Lake of Menteith
- Carron Valley
- Loch Leven
- River Tay
(I apologize in advance for incorrect spelling). You always hear that "trout live in pretty places" and this is certainly the case here! Enjoy these links:

I'd give an arm to fish that comp! My left one... I need the other to cast. Seriously though, It would be fantastic to fish heritage waters like that in such a setting.
Re: World Fly Fishing Championship Scotland 2009
Lakes give me headaches. And the Europeans understand still waters so well. Sounds like a tough competition to me.
Re: World Fly Fishing Championship Scotland 2009
too bad there were no open qualifiers for this???
Re: World Fly Fishing Championship Scotland 2009
Aaron, you mean the U.S. Team for Scotland is already set? How could that be? It doesn't sound fair to me. No '09 qualifiers?
Re: World Fly Fishing Championship Scotland 2009
Are you guys thinking of trying a qualifier?
Re: World Fly Fishing Championship Scotland 2009
I am not just going to "try" ;D
Re: World Fly Fishing Championship Scotland 2009
So far I'm only aware of 1 tentative regional in Michigan in May for 09'. The organizer said he'd email as soon as it solidifies. So we'll see. If you discover anything else I'd love to know!
Re: World Fly Fishing Championship Scotland 2009
Fished all of these loughs many times, won my first gold medal at Leven, which was for me more than the medal win, it was the lake that in the 1800s the first fly fishing competitive events were held.
In so far as the national events are concerned, it should not be a closed shop, it should be open for all who wish to compeat, if the eliminators are managed in the right way, the end result would be the best guys going into the team for the next years event.
To be honest if it continues to be a closed shop deal without due consideration for others to enter, l will have a great deal more to say about this in the future.
Davy.

There were no qualifiers or nationals this year period, there will be next year though. Not sure about the qualifiers but the nationals is pending to be held in PA . I believe the spots for the team goin to scotland were open for grabs by all members of Team USA (not just those traveling to the previous world championship) . Loren would know more about it.
