Why Not have Tpo Fly Tying Classes?
That's a great idea. Why don't you put one together. Ill even get a guest celebrity tyer to come inn if we can fill the class.
Who is going to take ownership of these great ideas, what we need far more then money is a little community ownership.
Justin,
You might approach some of the manufactures out there and offer them a deal so far as advertising.
I can tell you from experience, if l were to give away product or guide trips to all those who ask, it would cost me well over $10,000 a year.
Many of the FF events now days find it more difficult to get support from fly shops for products used at auctions.
Davy.
Whatever I got a house with a large table...HAHa. Im a Proficient Dry Fly Tier, you don't wanna see my sub~surface collection though... Im telling you we charge for are get togethers and put the money back into the system...
How many people would think they would like to take a Tpo Fly tying coarse?
Davy, I wouldn't expect you to ever donate anything at all. Your time on the site is such a blessing and more than enough.
Walshmiko. Why don't you pick a weekend in a couple months that you want to do one and commit to planning the whole thing. Where are you located?
I will find the tyer and see if they can come that weekend. Then we can ask for other volunteers to tie from the site. Perhaps we have four or five guys do three flies of one type.
People pay a nominal fee to come watch. Each tyer provides a recipe for each fly they produce and we auction all 15 off at the end. Find someone to provide a place for free and a weekend we can all do it with a couple months notice and then I will email blast the population and see if we can get together a bunch of people.
Maybe we charge 50 bucks for the event and you can keep half of the proceeds for putting it together.
I have a hint for you though, putting a post up under this heading asking how many people are interested isn't going to drum up much interest. It will require a whole lot more effort from both you and I.
Let me know if you are serious about it, I will give you access to every asset I have to make it successful.
Justin
Anybody else willing to donate their time to help us with some of these ideas? It's eerily silent in here.
I'm brand new to tying and would come to any class that was held within an hour or so of me -pretty much the Housy or the Farm area.
Take a Sat or Sun with a few experienced guys who like to show what they know? I'd pay $100 for that no problem. None of the shops around me that sell supplies ever have any classes that I have seen.
I have learned the little I have so far from videos etc and that's fine, but I'd be happy to hit some clinics/classes over the winter. I know from other hobbies, a few hours with someone who is knowledgeable and a good teacher is worth a 100hrs of hours on your own. Does not need to be elaborate, everyone bring their stuff, chip in for pizza at lunch etc.
Do any shops have space for such a thing? I'd think they could get a small cut and guys might buy stuff while there. Gets people into the shops during the off season. Maybe you guys could set up your camera while there and get some tying content/advertising for your site at the same time...
Just a thought if you are looking for names for a list.
Look Walsh, there's one with no effort at all.
I would say a shop would donate the the space for free with the prospect of making money off the attendees.
If we are organizing it, we should get the cash from it though, and by we I mean whoever organizes it. The shop isn't going to give us a cut of whatever they sell that day for bringing in 10-20 people are they? I mean, if the shop wants to give us 50% of their profit that they make off the attendees then I'm willing to split whatever we raise with them.
There are plenty of other locations we can rent for nothing or almost nothing. Firehouses, conference rooms at a hotel, park facilities and tons of other spots.
Who's got this?
Grady at Upcountry would house it! If I get 4 commitments I will organize the class.
