Wow, I got it right? That was a total guess! :o Well, not really. ;)
Thanks Aaaron & nymphmeister,
i'm not into doing the sucker spawn thing though,I prefer to tie caddis larva, clinger nymphs ,and i guess ill tie up some walt's worms they will be a new pattern to tie and try.i prefer tying very realistic to sucker spawn.Only time i tie outside that is for Great Lakes Tribs, and even then i prefer swinging speys and wets. Believe it or not i actually do quite well using hairwing wets tied small for The Lehigh River. but when i go out to your neck of the woods i get down an dirty with realistic nymphs and usually kick some butt. Are there stonefly nymphs on the Lil J?

I am sure there are a few stoneflies in the J, but I would not go out of your way to tie / fish them. Better food sources available there for the fish.
i know one thing its bad juju to underestimate stones,i've been victim many years ago .I remeber fishing what i thought was sulpher hatch which it was . Tried all different presentations and different stages of flies over several hours to no avail. Finally i just dug out the sample net and lo an behold two different stone adults in amongst the sulphers and bwo's.switched to the larger of the stones cast for another ten minutes no good ,switched to the smaller stone,Bam fish after fish after fish i stomach pumped two of the fish and there was the evidence i needed. Both these two fish and i suspect the others also were snubbing the sulphers and bwo's for the lil stones also there were a few of the larger stones in the samples too.
I know one thing never assume anything when bugs are on the water.Ever since i sample sample sample.
I have also seen stones make a difference in Maine and on The big Rivers Lehigh and Delaware respectively. Just was curious about The Lil j ever since mid 90's when i had heard Charlie Meck at a tying class at the lil lehigh speak highly of the Lil J.this was before the 96 flood and the recent floods.Just wondered what to tie is all.thank you for the info i appreciate it.

I just found this website and I am completely blown away. Have been reading around and it seems like a really great community. Is the majority of everyone on this from the Pittsburgh area?
I just got back yesterday from a four day trip on the Little J and absolutely killed. It rained every day I was there but the fishing was still unbelievable. I stayed at Canoe Creek in a cabin that was so cheap and nice I couldn't believe it!
Was getting fish on BWO, Princes but had the most success fishing a caddis pupa (green or white, sometimes a beadhead) with a Blue Quill dropper. There was also a very early-seasoned Sulphur hatch and on the last day the BWO was also coming off (especially on Spring Creek). Had success in the early evenings on those two dries.
Definitely park at the area that allows you to hike into the Gorge and walk downstream from the lot until the slow water ends. Wade in and fish from the end of the slow water.. that entire stretch down to the bridge. Then of course head into the Gorge. Hell, let's be honest the entire Little J is pretty much some of the best fishing you can find around here.
Also did really well further upstream by the gravel plant.
Definitely get on these streams once they recover from all this rain. The fishing is unbelievable!
The majority are from CT but there are a few from PA on here. I am from NW/NC PA myself.
