Re: Fly Ideas and Concepts
Thanks for the suggestions Aaron, I think those will be some great new variations. By the way, here is the variation of troutastic's stone fly. It was going to be a yellow stone until i found out i had no yellow dubbing. I think this will work. The legs are a bit shorter and I changed up the wing case.

Re: Fly Ideas and Concepts
Great looking pattern, looks like a fish magnet, what sizes can it be tied in because it could immitate allot more than just stoneflies in the smaller sizes.
Re: Fly Ideas and Concepts
That stonefly will work very well. Is there a material with the same appearance as krystal flash, but a larger diameter? If they do, I would change the tails and antennae to that material, just so that it stnds out more. There are a lot of good things going on in that fly. I think that if you can get the tails and antennae to stand out more it would be beneficial.
EFF,
I see that there is no ribbing on that woven body. You might want to rib it to create some added segmentation.
Re: Fly Ideas and Concepts
I tie it down to a 2xl #10 and up to 2xl #6. Sparser hackle if you want them to sink a little faster
Thanks for the input Aaron. I'll see what I can dig up. Moose Mane looks really good but the durability is not so hot..
Re: Fly Ideas and Concepts
I would not go to a natural material. I like the Krystal flash. I would see if there is a similar material, but only thicker. That was a good idea! I use it on small nymphs, but not on big nymphs because it's not thick enough.
Re: Fly Ideas and Concepts
Esopus Guy - what's the materials list on that stone fly - is that thin skin for the shellback?
Great looking fly

Re: Fly Ideas and Concepts
One question, has anybody tried tying stoneflies with an extended body? I think that could work very well.
