I know what you mean about new materials, I buy them for that reason too.
Last year my best fly was a bright green caddis larva tied with light olive scud back. Use 1lb Maxima for the rib and you will get beautiful deep segments. HRO is well-supplied with scud back.

Re: Nymph Skin?
I got a good supply of scud back and shrimp foil aleardy and i love the look they give to caddis nymphs.
I have a couple streams over here in my area of PA where bright Green Caddis Larva has always been a killer pattern. The brighter the better it seems!

Re: Nymph Skin?
Perhaps a good scud back green caddis imitation tutorial video could be arranged, Alain? I know I would appreciate it ;D I have never tied a caddis with anything other than dubbing or yarn. I would love to see one tied with some kind of back material.

Re: Nymph Skin?
Maybe I will film a bunch tonight. The girlfriend is gone for a month so I have some free time :)

Re: Nymph Skin?
I can do one also, maybe the same style I tied on Saturday for HRO. It is definitely a must have.

Re: Nymph Skin?
FYI guys.
The original material was called Flexibody, and was a product developed by a Dutch friend of mine now sadly passed on by the name of Hans Degrout.
Oliver Edwards used this material for the caddis larva patterns in his Masterclass Fly Tying publication.
Before that time we used latex sheet, a bitch to cut even, worse when subject to light it would deteriorate into a mess in the fly box.
Flexibody came in sheet form and you had to cut it, which was a pain.
Thin skin is a way better product all round, no doubt.
Davy.

Re: Nymph Skin?
These are how mine look (not perfect). There is an endless variety of course. The common elements here are a holographic gold underrib, and either scud back or Thin Skin as the shellback.
You guys are my heroes---and you are both still in the will. Before all of this medallion sheeting, special scud back material etc. were not yet available---any clear plastic bags etc. did the job along with a Sharpy marker. While I like the tutorials you have done already, good pix and the laundry list is most helpful for me. 8)
