Farmington Report 15, 2008
Hit the Farmington today with friend BJ. Got to the river around 6:30am. I set us both up with a golden stone fly nymph as well as a cream caddis larva and within a few minutes, BJ hooked up and landed 2 fish. I was very happy for him because those were his first ever Farmington River fish. Last time I took him to the river, he, my friend Ron, and I were washed off the river due to downpours so him hooking up was sweet. I landed a few fish after him. Then it stopped. As time went on, I hooked and landed 2 other fish. Then it stopped. BJ needed to break for breakfast, first time for me doing this, but he drove so we broke for breakfast. Water temp was at 32 degrees upon arrival but the air temp was 23. Actually dropped a few degrees while fishing. After breakfast we hit the river again. I wanted to hit the same spot to see if it had picked up. It really never turned on. BJ did hook another fish but lost it. I myself foul hooked a nice brown on his dorsal fin. There was another lull. I then hooked and landed 2 more fish and that was it. There was action but not what I thought there would be. But, we had a fun time. BJ landed his first few fish. Most of our fish came early am. Total between us was 12 fish hooked and 9 landed. Looking forward to warmer weather. I have had my fill of the winter stuff. ;D

Opie, peaked at your website too, hadn't been on in a bit. It's shaping up nicely, so check it out folks at firsthatchflyfishing.com. I like the streamer name, "Designated Hitter"- is that you new one you showed me? Great name, you could sell them sight unseen.

Designated Hitter..
I think I want to hear more about that one..

Re: Farmington Report 15, 2008
Thanks guys. I appreciate it. Means a lot. I keep adding to it but I am very happy with the way the site looks. Leonard I have no problem talking to you about some of those patterns. Just let me know what ones. You guys like the name Designated Hitter? I thought you would. Pretty cool name. When I was thinking about naming it, baseball was in my mind. Yes Torrey, it's the newer one I was talking to you about. I'll show it to you next time I see ya. It's a streamer as well.
P.S Torrey that new "drab" nymph hooked me a nice brown today. Will fish it more to see just how effective it will be. I really think it will work best in Spring, Summer, and Fall when the Mayflys are around.
Re: Farmington Report 15, 2008
I betcha if you mix Hare's Ear dubbing 50/50 with some yellow dubbing, and then tie a Hare & Copper style nymph with that, using a dark wire for the rib (black, copper brown, etc.), it will pass as a smaller Golden Stone and kick some trout ass. Try it. Do it, now!!!
