I have been fishing awhile in VA, but i was wondering where I'd have a chance at a truly large brown trout, i have fished mossy alot and have had a fair number of large fish, but it hasn't been "good" for a while, it has a lot of problems lately, but i was wondering if anyone can suggest somewhere else, i have been the jackson and had a lot of big fish action but only 2 large browns in my 4 trips, i was wondering if anyone had any secrets they can let me in on

I was going to suggest the Jackson. I have heard lots of good things about it. What size fish do you consider big? Someone I know says there are large trout up near the dam. Have you seen many of them up there?
What is going on with Mossy Creek? Are they taking too much water from the aquifers? What a shame I heard that there used to be monsters in there.

Re: VA fishing questions
There are still huge fish in mossy, but not the same amount as there use to be, they have been having problems with their stocking fingerlings. the last 3 years they have been stocking true fingerlings and they are all eaten within a little while, you can notice you never catch 10-16 inch fish, and the numbers aren't quite there anymore, the monsters are still there, but there are only 10inches or less and 17 inches and bigger, its really weird. i have gotten a bunch of 16+ and a couple that are right below 20 and one that was about 22+, but they just aren't there in numbers like they use to be, but i wanna get fish over 20! I know thats asking alot, but i know about the jackson and thats all i really know, except smith creek. i was hoping for a new place to have an opportunity to get fish over 20. i have the tendency to fish for only the big ones, (throwing huge streamers) but i don't seem to know any new spots that could produce these fish. Especally browns they are my style

Re: VA fishing questions
I'm sure big streamers produce big fish on the Jackson, but from what I understand the real ticket to hooking fish up near the dam is small nymphs, esp. Blackfly Larva. They fish them really small, from #18-24. Try also Midge Larva (esp. red ) #18-22, and Midge Pupa such as Black Beauties and Miracle Nymphs in the same sizes.
