Sightfishing for Carp in CT: Looking for quality spots
Hey all,
I am interested in sightfishing for the poor man's bonefish this year. I know the Housy has some great Carp fishing. I am looking to try it this year and I am looking for some quality water that is great for sightfishing in. Anyone have some spots they are willing to share on any water? Would be much appreciated.

If you have a boat,,,the Connecticut River,,,,I have seen some scary sized Carp rolling and cavorting,,,,, they are seriously big.
Bring out the 9wt or 10wt saltwater rods/reels.
Regards,
FK

Hey Flydad,
Do you often go up that way to target karp? Are they as hard to catch as other say?
I may want to tag along one time if that would be okay with you.

I'd be interested in any info about this as well. Seems like a fun thing to do in the dog days. I know therea re huge carp in the lower D by me. Just trying to figure out how to get them to take.
Re: Sightfishing for Carp in CT: Looking for quality spots
I havent targeted them as of yet but a freind of mine has. He tells me to use something like a berry fly. The last time I was there the water was low and the Carp were all over the place you could watch the roostertails when you startled them also there were a lot of them splashing arownd under the bushes that were hanging over the river near the banks. This is also a TMA area so dont forget your trout rod.

The place that i am talking about is in Gledale ma. Witch is the naxt town after housatonic ma, on rt 183. I think if you go to the HRO web site and look at river reports for LEE/GLENDALE Harold has a wright up about it. Or at least there used to be. Its about 2 or 3 miles north from the center of housatonic ma. on rt 183. There is a parking area on the right of the road.It is a very nice place to fish. there are not as many trout compared to Cornwall but they are there. There is a large pool & train bridge just down streem from thr parking area. Lots of pocket water. In the summer when the water is low you can see the Carp all over the place.

When I fished the housie outside of falls village this summer, there were some good sized carp upstream from the bridge headed up to the falls. The were hanging out around the edges of the plunge pools scaring the shit out of the forage fish and rooting after things in the sediment.

Opie (Jim), Remind me in the summer, I will clue you in to a secret location I know in New Haven County. I want to visit there first, to make sure it's still accessible. It is loaded with giant carp.
