The Frozen Tundra (Farmington River)
Wow! What a difference from New Years Day. The temp. was warmer but alot of the good areas were iced up pretty good. I got to the river about 11:30 and fished until 4:30. The winter magic continues for me. I found some bigger fish today. I landed 15 browns from 11" to 19". The 19 incher was a male with a slightly hooked jaw and that chocolate buttery brown fall/winter coloration with the red dots on the sides and the red tipped fins. I used nymphs, caddis larvae and slowly fished streamers. I even caught one on a chartreuse woolybugger with a gold beadhead that I found in a tree last year.

I love to catch fish on flies I find.
Its a great way to try new patterns - sometimes I'll tie up a dozen if I like the look.

BLAKGHOST1 Two of the fish that i hooked yesterday were at the end of a long drift. I let the line tighten up and let it sit for about 15-20 seconds and all of the sudden bang fish on. I think at that point my offering must have been high in the water column. So the fish must have been fairly active. The first one was a surprize because at the end of the drift i was just letting the line hang at the end of the drift while i changed my position in the river and the next thing i knew i had a fish on. just wohdering if you notice the same thing?

Way to go BlackGhost! I checked the flow, then read your post, and just called my boss. I am taking tomorrow off to hit the Farmington!

FLYDAD No fish at the end of the drift or high in the water column.
I just got back. After yesterday I had to go back again. Not as many fish today and no big ones but it was a really nice day for January. Alot of the ice melted overnite and all day today. Alot of people out too. I ran into the Predator and alanb_ct near the end of the day and got to fish with them for about an hour or so. I saw quite a few winter caddis and midges hatching today, but not that many fish rising.
TroutAholic Good luck, it will be a warm day.
