Pin Vise - Save money on bodkins
I learn a lot from other fly fishermen and I like to pass on helpful tips. My friend Tom and I were at the Sow Bug festival in Arkansas. I was looking for a bodkin because I wrecked mine burning , glue, resin ,or some other goo off the tip of the bodkin. I also do a lot of split thread stuff so I like needles that are really sharp with fine points. Tom said to me why don't you just buy a pin vise and swap out the needles when they are dull and you will never need to buy another bodkin. Whats a pin vise I said ?Tom educated me on machine tools and told me to search on line. So this is a pin vise

I found a set of four on line for twenty bucks. I gave one away to a friend. Leaving me with lots of Pin vises . The top unscrews and the handle end is open . You can insert the pin through the handle or the bottom of the vise.

For split thread techniques I like to use sewing machine needles. They have the sharpest points. I buy them at Jo Ann's Fabric . Where Else- very cheap. So save your self some dough and get a pin vise and a bunch of sewing needles.
