In some ways I don't miss the spring and summer. Two days of nice winter fishing with nobody around. No crowds, no noise, no dogs jumping in the water, not having to smell cigarette or cigar smoke. Only some nice browns, and some cold toes! All told I fished for about a dozen fish and lost many more.
If this nice weather keeps up I'm not going to get any work done.

Those are some nice looking fish. I haven't been on the stream for a couple of weeks due to my critical analysis on the call of the wild.

Nice day. What was your hot fly?
My favorite are the large groups of horseback riders, shouting from the front of the pack to the rear to hold a conversation and the occasional rider(s) crossing the river in the run I was heading up to fish.

If it wasn't a sz16 Frenchie with a fluorescent orange hot spot they didn't want to know about it. I had a copper tungsten bead head with the hot spot on the ass end. My anchor was a sz 10 chartreuse and peacock woven tied on a jig hook. I was fishing a euro leader set up but I had six feet of tippet between my sighter and my point fly (the woven). One foot down from my sighter I tied on a white thingamabobber. The set up allowed me to fish the stream effectively with the gear I had.

Nice fish. I hit up the Housy in CT yesterday and got schooled. Maybe it was all the icebergs floating down the stream.

That's the ticket. I drove around until I found a stream with no ice, or very little ice. After the cold snap we had the level of shelf ice or lack of will tell you a lot about a stream. I want to see lots of ground water influence. It helps in the middle of winter as well as the dog days of summer. Sometimes the greatest ground water influence is far away from where they stock. ;)
